AIM:
The aim of this paper is the evaluation of results and complications of proximal tibial fractures surgically treated with the L.I.S.S.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
We have retrospectively evaluated 44 consecutive patients. Mean follow-up time has been of 27 months (range 6-49). All fractures have been classified according to the AO system (41A2,A3,B3,C3,C2,C1).
All patients have undergone a radiographic evaluation, a clinical evaluation through the KSS (knee society score) questionnaire, and a subjective functional evaluation using the KOOS (knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score) questionnaire.
RESULTS:
Clinical recovery at the point of full weight bearing has been obtained in average after 96 days from surgical treatment. No major complication occurred. The mean KSS has been of 86/100. The KOOS questionnaire revealed best results for pain control and living activities, and worst results for ability to restart sporting activities.

CONCLUSIONS:
Results demonstrated that the L.I.S.S. combines an efficient synthesis and stability with the advantages of a less invasive surgical approach.
